Our Idaho PPL program started something new this year, 2012. One of their volunteers is a lovely 14 year old young lady who was recently crowned Queen for Personal Ponies Ltd. Idaho. Personal Ponies Idaho is in a comminity that has many Rodeo's and Horse Events. Hollie Carlson will represent PPL at local Rodeo's, community events and do some outreach with placement families and children. She will help our Idaho State Directors to educate others about Personal Ponies and work on various fundraising projects. Hollie has volunteered for Personal Ponies over the last 3 years. Donnis, our State Director for Idaho, had told Hollie she needed to learn everything about Personal Ponies so if someone asks her questions she would have all the correct answers. Hollie took the literature and went on line learning all she could. Donnis says that you can now ask Hollie anything about Personal Ponies and she has the answer. In fact, there are times Donnis has to think for a moment and instead of answering she turns to Hollie and says maybe you would like to answer that question and Hollie does just that!
Hollie is a great role model for some of the teenagers that are differently able. Hollie’s first event was the Kuna Night Light Parade where she rode her horse alongside three other teenager volunteers and three ponies lead by some of the special needs children in our program. Following the parade, Hollie was a “greeter” at the Governor’s Ball where she educated people visitng on our program. Next you will see Hollie at the Miss Rodeo Idaho Cornation at the State Capital and then at the Horse Expo this spring. The list just keeps growing and the word keeps spreading. Thank you Hollie and everyone else in Idaho for all you do! Below is a presentation Hollie gave at one of the Idaho events.
So first I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Hollie Danielle Carlson. I am the 14-year-old daughter of Stacey and Deonna Carlson. I was born in the fridgid town of Anchorage, Alaska and currently live in the beautiful town of Meridian, Idaho. I am a freshman in high school, and am homeschooled. Ever since I have been a little girl I have loved horses so much. My horses name is Hopper and she is the best thing since sliced bread. I am so excited to be the first Personal Ponies Ltd. Idaho Queen, and I think that it is one of the best titles in the queening world. I have had great experiences with Personal Ponies of Idaho to include helping train the ponies, to helping special need children and adults in leading and learning about these gentle animals. I have also had the opportunity to read stories to the children, and raise funds at our local Meridian speedway!
I am also involved in High School Rodeo for District II, competing in goat tying and barrel racing. I am involved in 4-H where I am the President of my local 4-H club as well. I also would like to tell you a little bit about Personal Ponies Ltd. and what I love about them.
Do you remember the first time you saw Mary Poppins? Do you also remember when Mary Poppins snapped her fingers and something cleaned itself up, and the excitement in the children’s eyes? When children, teens, and adults with that are differently able come to one of our events for Personal Ponies Ltd. the same glimmer, sparkle and amazement comes to their eye! Normally for magic there is some secret to making the magic - love, a ring, happy thoughts, and so much more. Here at Personal Ponies the secret to making our magic is the ponies! The beauty and wonder of educating people about the horse world is phenomenal and fun! Personal Ponies Ltd. is our name and keeping the western way of life is
our game! Placing our trained ponies with our clients is the icing on the cake, that and helping people with special needs learn how to properly care for their pony! It is especially fun to watch people see the foals for the first time! The, “How cute!” “Oo’s” and “Aahs never stop and that is my favorite place to be at events. Not only is being with Personal Ponies fun, but it is also educational for me and the volunteers. We have a child that Personal Ponies sponsors, and through the year I will mentor this child and she will walk the parade with me, and I am very excited, I know that we will be awesome friends! Thank you for listening to Mrs. Donnis and I and I hope you guys have a blessed day for the rest of the evening.
There is a little bit of "kid" in all of us, no matter our age!
This is Mike, a good friend of Personal Ponies. At first glance of these photos, you will probably assume that Mike is a volunteer and an animal lover. Actually, Mike is on a long journey with Alheimer's Disease and this is one of his first weekly one-on-one visits with Personal Ponies. Knowing how much our program means to Mike, and how much he adores children, Sandra Seiden, State Director of Personal Ponies Florida, invited him and his wife to come along with our ponies to a pediatric hosptial visit. Mike made a positive difference in every child he touched........In fact, Sandra said, "Mike made a positive difference in her too!". Sandra said that Mike reminded her most of all how important it is that we all feel useful and never give up on joy! Thank you Mike and Lynn, for sharing your precious husband with us.
He has only just begun!!!
